Home

Home.... photographs from my house in Woodstock NY.Much of my working life has centered around the subject of home. Home as a place and home as a feeling. I was very fortunate to get an early education in this subject, working with Ilse Crawford on her books Sensual Home and Home is where the Heart is. My own home has tended to be a live work space... an evolving experiment where I get to try out new ideas and express my current passions. I have photographed my home and many other houses and in this last decade have made a lot of things to put in your home.

I cherish the notion of home as a sanctuary….. an ideal where I am comfortable, accepted, confident, welcome and safe. I’ve always been privileged enough to have somewhere to live so I like to give back to those who are in need. One of the organizations we support at MTS is the Ali Forney Centre in New York City.

In their own words: ”Our mission is to protect LGBTQ youths from the harms of homelessness and empower them with the tools needed to live independently.”

I think I'd be quite crazy if I didnt get a chance to express myself. I like to love the things I am surrounded by. What bowl I eat my cereal from. The spoon I choose. The color of the sheets on my bed....Different moods...... Daylight is a great source of inspiration. Whenever I'm looking for somewhere to live I consider the light first.

Autumnal sunlight

Autumnal sunlight

The end of year is a reflective time. I've spent a lot of time in my bedroom. I've spent a lot of time in bed. Sometimes bed feels like the safest place.... I'm grateful for the many friends and collaborators who make my life a joy and make positive a world that is sometimes looking very dark. I'm only as strong as the support around me.... I wasn't made for isolation. Looking into the light and a year ahead that I hope is filled with love and kisses!
happy December
