MARTYN ON COLUMNS & URNS

"There is a wonderful dramatic tension between the structure of classical columns and the softness of draped fabric. Charlotte Lawton, who designed the set of our “Rock Pool” presentation at the London Design Festival last September, captured this so
perfectly (pictured above).

Doric columns were paired with urns filled with an abundance of moss ,ferns and branches...  evoking a visual romance of theater and history, paired with the scent of the forest.. It’s an moody aesthetic I’m excited to keep exploring when presenting the fabric collection."

AN INTERESTING NOTE ON COLUMNS FROM ARCHITECT, VITRUVIUS *

"In the invention of the two different kinds of columns, they borrowed manly beauty, naked and unadorned, for the one (Doric Column), and for the other the delicacy, adornment, and proportions characteristic
of women (Ionic column)."

ABOUT THE MTS TUMBLR

The MTS tumblr page is a  personal source of inspiration — a curation of things I love from a very broad spectrum of painting, music, people and interiors — compiled monthly by Dove Drury Hornbuckle.

It’s an ode to beauty (in my opinion that is…)
