AFTER PRAGUE: Is just that, the first image taken by Martyn after a visit to the riverside city, where the abundance seen in the medieval and renaissance art seeped into the work.

CEZANNE'S SHADOW #1: Draping fabrics and a spray of red blossoms are a nod to Cezanne’s composition in ‘Vase with Tulips’, the work was the early inspiration for the fabric collection.

THE YELLOW POPPY: The namesake bloom (a Thompson favorite) sits in the afternoon sun behind a bold peony, a flower that seemingly cant help but steal the scene with its ample petals.

CHERISH: Bursts of color in the form of Dahlias, poppies and other delights punctuate this work. The center stage vase is one of many constructed by Martyn Thompson studio for the series of images and highlights a particular affection for craft and the hand made.

THE LOVER: A sense of romance runs throughout the collection, but particularly in this piece. A white Lily reaches out in an embracing gesture, like the cradling arms of the lover.

FALLING IN LOVE SERIES

A unique set of fabrics that marry Martyn’s personal art practice and textile collection. The painterly photographs from his exhibition “Falling In Love At The Institute” have been constructed on a tapestry loom in sizing favorable to soft furnishings and upholstery. The images, inspired by a viewing of Cezanne’s “Vase with Tulips” at the Chicago Institute of Art, are an expression of simple beauty and romance.
